ACADEMY
The history of the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism begins on November 14, 1944, when the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR adopted a resolution on the opening of the Kazakh State Institute of Physical Culture in Almaty. From the moment of its foundation to the present time KazIFK – KazAST is the main head educational, scientific and sports center in the field of physical culture and sports in Kazakhstan and one of the leading sports universities of CIS countries. Over the years of its activity the Institute, and further the Academy has trained more than 19000 specialists in physical culture, sports and tourism. Graduates of our university can be found in different countries of the far and near abroad. Many specialists who received an education in KazAST (KazIFK), became outstanding sportsmen, coaches, scientists, leaders of the sports movement.
In the formation and development of the university, the great merit of its leaders, who have done much to improve the educational process, training specialists, multiplying the scientific and sports traditions. You can write a book about each of them. We will list their names in a modest and dignified manner:
- Bekbaev Shamil Shakirovich – master of sports of the USSR, rector from 1945 to 1950
- Serailev Mertai Seralievich, rector from 1950 to 1951
- Mukhamedzhanov Hamza Mukhamedzhanovich – Ph.D., Associate Professor, Rector from 1951 to 1971
- Akhmetov Kanapia Gabdullinovich – Ph.D., Associate Professor, Rector from 1971 to 1978
- Asenov Erkin Shalabasovich – Ph.D., Associate Professor, Rector from 1978 to 1982
- Uteshov Askar Belyalovich – MD, professor, rector from 1982 to 1986
- Karazhanov Bektuleu Karazhanovich – Ph.D., professor, rector from 1986 to 1998
The political and socio-economic processes that began in the 1990s opened a new stage in the history of the university. New approaches to the organization of higher education and training of personnel oriented to market relations have become necessary. These conditions were dictated by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the transformation in 1998 of KazIFK into the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism. In the same year, the Academy opened new faculties and specialties:
sports medicine;
– tourism;
– sports management;
– sports direction;
– international sports arbitration law, etc.
A system of continuing education was created: college – bachelor – master – doctoral.
Today, the Academy has all the conditions for quality training of specialists and professional growth of the teaching staff. Students are engaged in comfortable classrooms, train in modern sports halls.
At the Academy there is the Republican Educational and Methodological Association on the specialties “Physical Culture and Sport” and “Tourism”. The Academy is the developer of the State program for the development of physical culture and sports, state educational standards for higher professional education in the specialties of the university.
Recognition of KazАST’s contribution to the development of world sports and sports science is the holding of the International Scientific Congress “Modern Olympic Sports and Sport for All”, which is held under the patronage of the President of the country N.A. Nazarbayev and the president of the International Olympic Committee J. Roget.
Looking back on the path covered, we can say with confidence that the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism at its historical stage played a decisive role in the introduction of physical culture and sports in the life of multinational Kazakhstan.
Today, the Academy’s task is to keep the traditions of the older generation, multiplying the accumulated positive experience, gradually introduce world standards of education, solve the problems of physical perfection of a person, his spiritual and moral health, show the importance of physical culture in modern society, educate worthy citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This is the guarantee of the development of the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism.
