On April 20, 2026, the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism hosted the opening of the International project “Development of Practical Competencies in Serving People with Disabilities in Kazakhstan,” implemented within the framework of the RITA (Region in Transition) program – “Changes in the Region.” The initiative was launched by the “Education for Democracy” Foundation, co-financed by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation.
The project aims to enable Kazakhstani university lecturers and young social workers to master Polish practice-oriented teaching methods through the acquisition of specific practical skills in providing services to people with disabilities.
On this day, the participants attended a lecture titled “People with Special Needs”, followed by practical training sessions on working with wheelchairs, including issues of safety and assistance. The lecture and training were conducted by a specialist from Poland, Michał Słomiński, a staff member of FAR (Fundacja Aktywnej Rehabilitacji – Active Rehabilitation Foundation), who has extensive experience working with people with mobility impairments. In addition, the following project staff from Poland assisted in conducting the practical sessions and provided interpretation support: Alexander Skaliy, Karolina Paradowska, Tatiana Skaliy, and Valeria Hubina.
All events of this day within the implementation of the international project “Formation of Practical Competencies in Serving People with Disabilities in Kazakhstan” were received with great interest by participants from Almaty and other regions.
