Teaching and methodological work in the World Languages Department
The department’s teaching and methodological work is conducted in accordance with state education standards. The department maintains all documentation related to organizational and methodological work, including department meeting minutes, open class discussion minutes, mutual attendance records, annual reports, individual faculty plans, and workload distribution.
The teaching process is based on a credit-based system. A comprehensive teaching and methodological curriculum have been developed based on the Standard Curriculum, the working curriculum, and a catalog of elective courses (optional). In accordance with higher education requirements, the department has standard programs and a catalog of elective courses for all general education subjects: Foreign Language, Professionally Oriented Foreign Language, Foreign Language in the Service Sector, and Business English.
The department’s disciplines provide students in the educational programs “Physical Education and Sports,” “Adaptive Physical Education,” “Tourism”, “Restaurant and Hotel Business,” and “Recreation and Sports and Health Tourism” with the necessary knowledge to develop and refine their verbal skills and abilities related to the scientific field of professional communication.
The main goal of these disciplines is to develop communicative competence—the ability to solve real-world communication problems using linguistic means in specific speech situations in the social and scientific spheres. This development also helps students in non-linguistic specialties develop their communicative competence during their education at the basic standard levels A-2 and B-1.
The department has modern facilities and equipment. Five classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and five classrooms with televisions. The specific nature of the department’s basic and specialized disciplines requires the use of interactive games, educational films, and other relevant educational films in practical classes. The department’s faculty also conducts classes online using Microsoft Teams, Webex, and Zoom.
The department’s faculty has published electronic textbooks and teaching aids:
- English for Athletes: A Professionally Oriented Foreign Language for the Physical Education and Sports Program; Bakytzhan E.K., Ospanova A.B., Berdysheva A.A., Almaty 2025
- Foreign Language for the Service Sector: A Textbook for the Physical Education and Sport Programs and the Regional Children’s Hospital; Orynbaeva U.K., Myrzalieva S.E., Manteeva S.S., Boltaeva G.A., Almaty 2025
The department has an “English Club.” The club’s main goal is to improve practical language skills for active use in everyday communication and professional activities, as well as in solving business, scientific, political, academic, and cultural problems. The content of the discussions is varied: educational, informative, intellectual, and entertaining. The main goal is to engage students in learning English to prepare them for academic mobility and admission to master’s programs.
In addition, the department’s lecturers provide preparation for various olympiads and competitions.
