History of the Department of Wrestling and NVS

The Department of wrestling, is a kind of “forge” of highly qualified athletes and coaches-teachers. Modern training methods, everything new and advanced in sports is applied at this department. Every year, the faculty of the department does a lot of work to attract applicants to the academy.

As academic disciplines, various types of wrestling were part of the Department of Weightlifting, boxing and fencing, starting in 1946. The first head of the department was R. P. Okolelov. Then the department was headed by A. D. Kostin, Master of Sports of the USSR, later honored coach of Kazakhstan and the USSR.

	In 1963, P. F. Matushchak, who worked in this position until 1978, was elected head of the department by a competition.
	From 1979 to 1997, the department was headed by the first Master of Sports of the USSR in freestyle wrestling in Kazakhstan, K. R. Baydosov. With his arrival at the department appeared the specialization of judo, he generously shared his knowledge with students and teachers
	Then the department was headed by E. A. Alimkhanov-now a professor, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, and the honorary head of the Department of Wrestling in those years was the Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Tourism and Sports D. B. Turlykhanov
	From 2003 to to 2020, the head of the department has successfully worked as a Ph. D., Professor, Honored Coach of the Republic of Kazakhstan M. N. Shepetyuk. Currently, students are trained at the department in six specializations: Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, judo and sambo, Kazakh kuresi and national sports.
	From June 2020 to June 2021, the department was represented by Master of pedagogical science, associate professor, honored trainer of the Republic of Kazakhstan zhaydar Nurakhmetovich Kazast Sailaubayev.
	From June to September 2021, the department was headed by the Master of Pedagogical Sciences, senior lecturer Konakbayev Bakytbek Mukhametkhanovich.
	Since September 2021, the head of the department is PhD, associate professor, graduate of the department Doshybekov Aydin Bagdatovich, holder of the state scientific scholarship to young talented scientists of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Greco-Roman wrestling in Kazakhstan dates back to 1925, when Semipalatinsk first held the provincial championship in French wrestling. 14 athletes from Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semipalatinsk, Pavlodar and Zaisan participated in the competition: The wrestlers competed in four weight categories – the lightest, light, medium and light heavyweight. In 1947, the awards of all the Union youth competitions in classical (now Greco-Roman) wrestling were awarded for the first time in Moscow. 120 wrestlers from 13 union republics, Moscow and Leningrad came to the start of the competition. Since 1948, the republic has hosted the championships of Kazakhstan, wrestlers participate in the All-Union championships, Sports Competitions of the peoples of the USSR. The first international classical wrestling tournament in Kazakhstan was held in Almaty on March 23-24, 1963. 	Anatoly Ivanovich Kolesov wrestler and coach of the Greco-Roman style. He won the World Welterweight title in 1962, 1963, and 1965, and the Olympic gold medal in 1964. Kolesov won only two Soviet titles , in 1959 and 1964. He retired in 1965, and in 1966-69 was the head coach of the Soviet national wrestling team. From 1969 to 1992, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports under the Council of Ministers of the USSR. In 1991, he led the Soviet Wrestling Federation and then the Soviet and then Russian wrestling teams at the 1972-2004 Olympic Games.
	Valery Rezantsev is a Greco-Roman wrestler. He was an Olympic gold medalist in 1972, and competed for the Soviet Union in 1976. He won gold medals at the 1970 , 1971 , 1973 , 1974, and 1975 World Wrestling Championships.
	Vadim Aleksandrovich Psarev is a Greco-Roman wrestling coach, Honored Coach of the USSR (1969). Coach of the USSR national team. Judge of the All-Union category (1968). Honored Coach of Kazakhstan. In 2014, he was inducted into the FILA Hall of Fame.
	Zhaksylyk Amiralyuly Ushkempirov is a classical wrestler, Olympic champion, Hero of Labor of Kazakhstan, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1980). World champion. Honored coach of the Kazakh SSR.
	Anatoly Mikhailovich Bykov is a Greco-Roman wrestler, Olympic champion and world champion. He graduated from the Kazakh GIFK (1975). Soldier, teacher. He played for Dynamo (Alma-Ata). 	Daulet Bolatovich Turlykhanov. World champion in 1989 and vice – world champion in 1993, European champion in 1988 and Asian champion in 1995, silver (1988) and bronze (1992) Olympic medalist. 	Mkhitar Razmikovich Manukyan is a Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestler, coach, two-time Asian champion (1997, 1999), two-time world champion (1998, 1999), Olympic medalist (2004). Master of Sports of Armenia of international class (1995). Honored Master of Sports of Kazakhstan (1998). Awarded the medal “For Labor Distinction” (2004).
	Bakhtiar Bagasharovich Baiseitov. Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestler. Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Sambo wrestling. The word “sambo” means “self-defense without weapons”. The technical arsenal of sambo includes the best techniques taken from the varieties of folk wrestling in many countries of the world. Sambo training specialization, in many respects similar to the Kazakh national wrestling kazakhsha-kures, was opened at the institute in 1965. The first sambo teacher was a graduate of Kaz IFK V. I. Pak. The KazIFK sambo team won the first place in the team championship of Kazakhstan in 1954, and in 1991 – the first place among the institutes of physical culture of the USSR. The first great success fell to the share of the student of the Institute, master of sports, champion of Kazakhstan L. Moskalev. In the sixties, he won the second place in the USSR championship three times. From September 1969 to December 1978, A. R. The title of Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan in judo wrestling was awarded to more than 50 graduates of KazAST. Title of Honored Coach of the Republic of Kazakhstan-E.Imanbekov, R.
