History of the Department of World Languages
The Department of World Languages of the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism (KazAST) has been operating since January 3, 2026, following the reorganization of the Department of Kazakh, Russian, and Foreign Languages.
At present, the Department provides instruction in English.
The Department delivers basic and elective courses within the following educational programs: Physical Culture and Sport, Adaptive Physical Culture, Tourism, Restaurant and Hospitality Business, Recreation and Sports and Health Tourism, and Sport Management.
In the years preceding the reorganization, the Department’s leadership and academic staff made a significant contribution to youth education, as well as to the development and further improvement of the university. Currently, the academic staff of the Department consists of 10 faculty members.
The Department implements a modern educational model that incorporates the latest scientific and methodological achievements and contemporary teaching technologies. All faculty members apply active teaching methods, including situational role plays, group trainings, logical frameworks, discussions, and creative tasks.
In addition, the Department implements the Concept for the Development of Foreign Language Education and the Concept of Multilingual Education. Each year, elective courses are presented both in electronic and oral formats by leading English language instructors of the Department, including A.T. Baiturbayeva, U.K. Orynbayeva, G.A. Boltayeva, A.B. Ospanova, A.A. Berdysheva, Usipbekova, S.S. Manteyeva, S.E. Myrzaliyeva, and E.K. Bakhytzhan.
The Department’s faculty members have developed standard curricula for professionally oriented foreign language courses for the Physical Culture and Sport program.
Annually, faculty members of the Department undertake professional development training in teaching methodology at international language centers such as StudyInn, InterPress, the British Council, SDU, and Orleu.
Faculty members actively participate in city-level, national, and international seminars and conferences, as well as professional development trainings.
The Department consistently serves as an organizer of educational and cultural activities. Mentorship practices are implemented not only with students but also within the Department, where experienced faculty members provide scientific and methodological support to young lecturers. Aesthetic education sessions and tolerance lessons are conducted during classes. The Department staff is active and cohesive, demonstrating strong collegiality not only during the academic and educational process but also through shared extracurricular activities.
