Research Activities of the Department of Track and Field Athletics

Throughout its entire period of existence, the department has paid considerable attention to the scientific and pedagogical development of its teaching staff. Between 1970 and 1985, seven instructors successfully defended their Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences (PhD equivalent) dissertations, and L. I. Orekhov earned the degree of Doctor of Sciences. In subsequent years, six more staff members defended candidate dissertations: D. Tashkeev, V. A. Sorokin, E. B. Omarov, G. Kriksunova, E. L. Karavaeva, and B. Tyutebaev.

In 2009, E. L. Karavaeva defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences. In addition, 14 instructors from other universities in Kazakhstan completed their doctoral or candidate research at the department as external applicants and successfully defended their dissertations.

Each year, the department’s academic staff improve their qualifications by expanding their knowledge with modern scientific achievements. Faculty members regularly participate in international scientific conferences and national research seminars on current issues in physical education and sport. All instructors hold relevant professional development certificates.

Department staff also take part in conferences and seminars with leading international experts in sport and sports medicine, invited by the academy’s administration. At the end of each semester and academic year, departmental meetings review reports from faculty members on the implementation of their individual research plans.

The main research focus of the department is the scientific and methodological support of training and competitive processes within the annual training cycle of athletes. At the end of each academic year, faculty members undergo an evaluation based on all areas of educational and research activity.
