Anatomy is the science of the structure of living organisms.
Physiology is the science of the functions and vital functions of living organisms.
Sports medicine is a field of medical science and practice that is responsible for the medical and biological support of athletes ‘ training.
These three basic biomedical scientific disciplines study and explore the basic properties of living organisms, are taught at the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Sports Medicine for students who have chosen the educational programs “Physical Culture and Sports” and “Adaptive Physical Culture and Sports”.
The Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Sports Medicine is theoretical and general scientific, it is part of the Faculty of Olympic Sports of the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism, the dean of which is R.T. Sautov. The Department of Anatomy and Physiology was created as a result of the merger of three departments: anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
The Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Sports Medicine is one of the oldest departments in the Kazakh Academy of Sports and Tourism. 80 years have passed since the establishment of the Kazakh Institute of Physical Culture, but the staff of the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Sports Medicine has not changed their direction of scientific research, continue to develop and improve their skills, pass on their experience to the younger generation.
The history of the formation and development of the department is rich in events that are stored in the memory of our veterans. Many creative people played a special role in its formation. Such, for example, as the former rector of the Kazakh Institute of Physical Culture Mukhamedzhanov H. M., Professor Bernstein A.D., Professor Uteshev A. B., Professor Potapov I. A., Professor Bugybaeva S. Zh., Professor Kudashova L. R., Professor KazAST Nevsky Ya. I., Professor Petrenko E. T., Associate professor Lesbekova R. B. and many others. We have trained famous coaches and teachers of Kazakhstan: Khvan M. U., Matushchak P. F., Zima A. G., Kislitsin Yu. L., Makogonov A. N., Ivanov A. S., Kudashova L. R. and many others.
At various times, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Bernstein A.D., Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Uteshev A. B., Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Potapov I. A., etc.
In 1991-1998, she was the head of the department, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Yumasheva S. K.
In 1999-2008, she headed the Department of Doctor of Biological Sciences, professor Bugybaeva S. Zh.
In 2008-2011, 2013-2014-Candidate of Biological Sciences, docent Lesbekova R. B.

Currently, the department employs two Doctors of Science, Professors, four candidates of Science, associate professors, two candidates of Science, one PhD, which is more than 50% of the total full-time teaching staff.
The department actively conducts research work on medical and biological problems of physical culture and sports, scientific and methodological support for the training of athletes (Kudashova L. R., Ulukbekova A. O., Lesbekova R. B., etc.).
The following disciplines are taught at the department:
- Fundamentals of life safety and ecology;
- Anatomy with the basics of sports morphology;
- Fundamentals of age physiology and biochemistry;
- Sports medicine and anti-doping control;
- Physical therapy and massage;
- Fundamentals of research and sports metrology;
- Physiological foundations of physical education and sports;
- Physical rehabilitation etc.
The pride of the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Sports Medicine is the anatomical museum-a collection of anatomical preparations, natural and artificial, stored in special rooms.
A great contribution to the opening of the anatomical museum was made by the rector of the Institute, Associate Professor Mukhamedzhanov Kh. M. The materials of the museum serve as a great support for the study of human anatomy and physiology.
Teachers of the department have developed educational and methodological complexes for all disciplines, which include the following list: syllabus, IWS folder, test tasks, map of educational and methodological security, recommendations for laboratory and practical classes, handout of lectures, task execution scheme. The staff of the department published educational and methodological manuals on the disciplines of the department.
The main scientific direction of the department: adaptation of the body to muscle activity.
Within the walls of the department, students, undergraduates, and doctoral students gained research experience.
The Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Sports Medicine participates in various events, scientific conferences, and symposiums organized by the Academy’s management and outside.
The professors and teachers of the department have developed and published many different textbooks, scientific works, methodological guidelines and monographs in the state and Russian languages, which have received their recognition.
Since 2021, the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Sports Medicine has started its implementation of the educational program “Adaptive Physical Culture and Sports” (https://kazast.edu.kz/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/ОП-АФК-русс.pdf), the purpose of which is to train highly qualified physical culture teachers, specialists in the field of adaptive physical culture and sports with high social and civic responsibility, able to solve the tasks of training and education in educational institutions., correctional and sports institutions.
The educational program itself in 2021 successfully passed the primary specialized accreditation for 5 years.
This academic year, the second set of students was made in the number of about 40 students for the educational program “Adaptive physical culture and sports”, compared to the last academic year – more than 50 students, and there are students with special educational needs. This indicates a high demand for this educational program in the labor market.
Due to the fact that according to official data, the total number of persons with disabilities as of January 1, 2022 amounted to about 700 thousand people (7.5% of the total population), including 98.3 thousand children under the age of 18. At the same time, the number of people with disabilities due to the increase in chronic diseases and the aging of the population is growing, our future specialists in adaptive physical culture will be in demand in the labor market and will be employed without problems. In addition, in the Republic of Kazakhstan there are a number of public associations, organizations, charitable foundations that provide social protection and support to people with disabilities, as well as create equal opportunities for people with special needs. Among such organizations, there are student volunteer organizations, where our students were attracted under the educational program “Adaptive Physical culture and sports”.

The Department participated in the conclusion of agreements and memoranda on long-term cooperation this year with the World of Equal Opportunities, Teacher’s Academy and the National Anti-Doping Center of Kazakhstan.
For the educational and methodological process, Director Ulzhekova N.T. and rehabilitologist Nurkhozhaeva A.M. were attracted as teachers from the “World of Equal Opportunities” Public Institution; Both are masters in AFC; from the National Anti-Doping Center of Kazakhstan – master, specialist in the field of anti–doping control Zhumabayeva G.B.
On the basis of the “World of Equal Opportunities” in the framework of dual education, students in the educational program “Adaptive physical Culture and Sports” undergo extracurricular practice, where they play the role of volunteers, helping children with disabilities to adapt to social life in adaptive sports (boccia, karate, swimming, etc.).
