LIBRARY
The library’s unified collection consists of about 386 615 copies (textbooks, educational and methodological, scientific, reference and fiction literature, periodicals), of which are on the state. language – 161,517 copies .
The library fund is equipped with literature on the profile of the Academy and contains publications of basic literature on social and humanitarian disciplines over the past 5 years, on natural sciences and other disciplines over the past 10 years.
Replenishment of the library fund at the request of the departments of the Academy is carried out through cooperation with publishing houses and bookselling organizations: “Academy- Media”, “Erudite”, publishing houses of KazNU, “Almanac”, “YURAYT”, “Lantar Books”.
In accordance with the tasks of providing students with textbooks in the state language in KazAST, a significant role in meeting the needs of students in educational literature is played by the teaching staff of the Academy, who are engaged in the development and production of textbooks.
The KazAST library consists of:

The Library has: computers in the amount of 47 pcs., the total number of scanners and copiers is 5 pcs. The subscription of educational literature records readers in the library and issues literature. The fund presents educational, fiction, as well as scientific and methodological manuals.
The reading room is for all categories of students. It presents literature on physical culture, socio- humanitarian disciplines (history, philosophy, political science, sociology, psychology, cultural studies, ethics, aesthetics, religion, fundamentals of law, legislative foundations), literature on languages (Kazakh, Russian, English), literature on medical and biological disciplines, reference and periodicals. The reading room is also an exhibition hall of the library, where exhibitions of new arrivals are held, the works of teaching staff are exhibited, and thematic exhibitions are expanded.
Scientific hall – for the implementation of educational activities for teaching staff, doctoral students, undergraduates, scientific literature is presented to help the educational process and scientific work, reference books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, versatile cognitive literature.
The Electronic Resources Hall is equipped with computer equipment and access to information databases of electronic resources, an electronic catalog with full–text publications of the Academy.
Electronic textbooks are presented in the hall – texts of textbooks, textbooks provided as mandatory curricula of academic disciplines of working curricula. On September 18, 2023, in order to expand the range of assistance to users of the Academy library, the library’s night subscription began operating. The leading methodological principle that ensures the success of the introduction of a night subscription is, first of all, the alternative possibility of using copies of works. In essence, night subscription services are a certain set of actions of library staff.
At the literature collection points in the reading rooms, readers have the opportunity to use the publications until the morning of the next day. Accordingly, the rules for using the night subscription of the KazAST library have been developed.
Dormitories No. 4 and No. 2 have reading rooms from 1800 to 2300 hours. Thus, the Library operates on the principle of “Library – 24 hours a day”.
Library and Bibliographic classes are held annually for first-year students in September-October, where students learn the basics of working with catalogs when searching for literature, working in an electronic catalog, as well as working with international databases in Kazakh and English available in the library, guided tours of the library are conducted.
The transition to new information technologies, the modernization of all spheres of activity of the KazAST Library is one of the most relevant areas of its work, which contributes to the transformation of the library into a modern information department of the university, improving the quality of information services in accordance with modern requirements for the introduction of digitalization. By now, all library processes have been automated: accounting for new literature receipts, distribution of book collections, cataloging of literature, a reference and search engine, and reader service.
Also, with the development and implementation of new versions of automated library and information programs into the practice of the KazAST Library, it became possible to provide users with access to electronic copies of the text of a printed publication by linking links to existing bibliographic records in an electronic catalog. The information capabilities of the KazAST Library have expanded due to remote access to international and national resources.
The KazAST Library provides online services for users:
- Electronic document delivery (assignment of UDC, bibliographic lists, );
- Virtual reference service (virtual book exhibitions, responses to requests via e-mail and social networks
- WhatsApp).
Since 2014, the library has been using the KABIS automated library system, which includes automation of library processes and providing remote access to the Library of the Academy through an electronic catalog, which is available in all academic buildings, as well as on the Internet from the Academy’s website (https://kazast.edu.kz/кабис ).
In 2024, the KazAST Library introduced the experience of the Scientific Library of Nazarbayev University in introducing the work of a Subject Librarian.
The subject librarian performs the function of an intermediary between Faculties and the Library, the assigned librarian provides consultations to faculty and students within his competence; uses the capabilities of advertising and social media networks (university website, library, mail.ru , Vkontakte).
The KazAST Library provides online services for users:
- Electronic document delivery (assignment of UDC, bibliographic lists, );
- Virtual help desk (virtual book exhibitions, answering inquiries via e-mail and social networks – WhatsApp).
Also, since 2024, the Library has been holding: “Days of Information”, “Days of Departments”, exhibitions, screenings, compilation of recommendation and scientific-auxiliary lists of literature, execution of thematic written and oral references.
The library tries to take part in all university events. Book exhibitions are being organized in all directions.
According to the License Agreement on Cooperation, electronic document delivery is practiced, which is an analogue of an Interlibrary subscription. The Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture has provided about 400 titles of electronic books of the Academy’s teaching staff.
Periodicals are one of the important components of the library fund of the Academy. For 2024, the Academy has subscribed to 37 titles of periodicals. Subscription to periodicals is formed on the basis of applications from the faculty and employees of KazAST.
